PCGS Graded Coins
PCGS Graded CoinsThe Professional Coin Grading Service is one of most popular and well respected independent coin grading and certification services availavable.
PCGS was established in 1986. They independently grade, certify as genuine, and seal coins in protective tamper resistance holders (sometimes called slabbs). The sealed holder also acts as a certificate of authenticity and grade.
When a coin is graded by PCGS, a minimum of two experts examine the coin; some coins will require more graders. Coins are graded on a 70 point scale which is a part of their Grading Standard.
Of course, all coin graded/certification services charge a fee for their services. By being independent entities, separated from any particular coin dealer or auction house, they can be subjective in defining the grade of a coin.
Using experts in the field, they have graded and authenticated over 6 million coins with a combined declared value of over 8 billion dollars.
